How to edit a PDF in Word

Updated October 13, 2026 · 2 min read

PDF is made to be read, not edited. To change a paragraph, update a table or reuse a document, the most reliable method is to convert it to Word, edit it, then save it as a PDF again.

Convert the PDF to Word

  1. 1Open Docyvo’s PDF to Word tool and add your PDF (up to 100 MB and 300 pages).
  2. 2Start the conversion: text, headings, images and tables are rebuilt in a real DOCX file.
  3. 3Download the document and open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs.
  4. 4Make your changes.
  5. 5Save it as a PDF again (File > Save As > PDF) or use the Word to PDF tool.

What if my PDF is scanned?

A scanned PDF only contains a picture of each page. Docyvo detects it and applies text recognition (OCR) in the page’s language, up to 25 pages: you get editable text rather than a photo. Proofread the result, especially numbers and names.

Opening the PDF directly in Word

Word can also open a PDF (File > Open) and convert it itself. The result is fine for plain text, but tables and complex layouts are often better rebuilt by a dedicated converter.

Privacy

Converting to Word requires an engine too heavy for a browser: the file is sent encrypted to a server in the European Union, processed in an isolated environment, then deleted automatically within an hour. It is never read or reused.

Frequently asked questions

Are tables preserved?

Yes, they are rebuilt as real Word tables with their rows and columns.

Can I edit a PDF without converting it?

For a small change, you can add text, a signature or the date with Sign PDF. To rewrite a paragraph, converting to Word is still the simplest solution.

Does the converted document keep the same font?

Text uses the fonts installed on your computer; if a font is missing, Word replaces it with a close one.
